Did you know that before this space became a city park it was a gas station? In a break from the tradition of passive parks, it was determined that a neighborhood gathering place was needed for Lunada Bay. The project evolved from simple beautification to a vibrant, fully functional city park where residents now gather for special events such as concerts and festivals, or take a quiet lunch break, or meet with after school friends.
The stage, lighted pergola, and large ficus trees along the perimeter are key design elements of this city park. LBHOA worked with the residents and city to advocate and develop the park concept into a reality. This project and process spanned several years and Lunada Bay Park was opened in 2005.
