LBHOA Board of Directors Endorses Measure SOS

Here at the Lunada Bay Homeowners Association we have a rich history of supporting the LB community in various ways.  This includes restoration projects, events such as the Harvest Festival, Concerts in the Park, Santa in the Park and sharing important local ballot measure information in a non-biased manner.

Measure SOS is a bond on the ballot November 5th that will support all 18 school sites within the PVPUSD.  Currently, our schools are UNSAFE and UNHEALTHY for our students and staff.  Almost all school sites are still in their original form from when they were built in the 1960’s and 70’s.  This means that electric panels are no longer working or are on the verge of failing and cost $140k a month to run generators.  There is mold in locker rooms and classrooms.  Last year alone, leaking roofs in 45 classrooms disrupted learning.  Gas leaks and sewage backups are occurring and make school campuses unsafe. In short, our schools are not reflective of Palos Verdes Peninsula and how much we all value education for our children, especially since so many people move here for our school district.

Peninsula High

Drainage Issues causing damaged foundations on 2 large buildings

Miraleste Intermediate

MIS has been running on a diesel generator since February

PV High

Locker room/Athletic Building – sitting in aquifer where current pumps are inadequate during rainy season (need new pumps/dam system)

Measure SOS fixes this!

  • Measure SOS funds only urgent and essential repairs.  It requires an independent oversight committee, audits and public spending disclosures.
  • Measure SOS costs $29.00 per $100,000 or $290.00 per $1,000,000 of assessed home value NOT market value.
  • Measure SOS protects our home values.
  • Measure SOS makes PVPUSD eligible for upwards of $75,000,000 in State matching money at no additional cost to local taxpayers.  If Measure SOS does not pass this money (from Prop 2) will go to repair schools in other communities.
  • All 5 School Board members voted to approve Measure SOS for the November 5 election. This unanimous decision by the Board signals its reasonableness and broad support.

The LBHOA Board of Directors supports Measure SOS to protect our children, our home values and our community.  To learn more about Measure SOS visit https://www.yesonsos.com/school-photos
